About

David Williamson is a career geoscientist, having worked in both petroleum and mining since 1996. He is Founder and CEO of Wheelhouse Geoscience, a multidisciplinary geoscience consultancy comprised of highly skilled subject matter experts working projects for clients in the energy upstream and midstream space. David also co-founded and serves as COO of Woodcreek Energy, an oil and gas company focused on the acquisition of onshore long-lived producing properties. His experience includes both conventional and unconventional plays, with several hundred wells—vertical and horizontal—having reached TD under his watch.

As an oil and gas executive, David served the prior eight years as Vice President, Geoscience at two private equity backed exploration and production companies, Monadnock Resources and Forge Energy. David co-founded Monadnock Resources in 2015, with a team that leveraged its extensive horizontal development experience to target San Andres carbonates along the Northwest Shelf of the Permian Basin, Texas. David was responsible for all aspects of geoscience, including reservoir characterization, business development, and operations geology. His well planning resulted in the drilling of 27 horizontal producers and 4 vertical science/SWD wells, organically growing production through the drill bit to ~2,500 bopd.

Beginning in 2012, David helped Forge Energy grow its fledgling Central Basin Platform San Andres assets to >25,000 acres and oversaw the planning and drilling of ~70 San Andres horizontals. David assisted with business development studies of plays from South Texas to Montana, including Forge’s entry into the Wolfbone Play in the southern extents of the Delaware Basin of West Texas.

Prior to this, David served in several teams as a senior geologist at Pioneer Natural Resources. When he started at Pioneer in 2004, he was one of only two geoscientists working the company’s Midland Basin assets and was jointly responsible for a vertical drilling program employing as many as 16 rigs to drill up to 350 wells per year. Later, he was a key member of the West Texas Growth Team, charged with increasing Pioneer’s Permian footprint. He also helped Pioneer enter the Barnett Combo Play of the Fort Worth Basin of North Texas, where he planned and steered ~50 Barnett horizontal wells. David was also a member of the corporate level New Plays and Shale Technology Team, tasked with reservoir characterization of various U.S. shale plays.

Starting in 2000, David worked as a mining geologist for the Southwest Division of Martin Marietta Materials, the nation’s second largest aggregates mining company. Before this he began his career in the late 90’s working at ARCO International Oil & Gas Co., in its Southeast Asia New Ventures Exploration Group.

David remains very involved with his alma mater, including among other things serving on the Advisory Council for the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the Transformation Council on Philanthropy, and as industry advisor of the Department of Geosciences’ Permian Basin Research Lab. In 2013, the university presented him with the Green and Orange Award for Alumni Service at its annual Outstanding Alumni Awards Gala. David and his wife enjoy raising their two daughters and immersing them in nature, including spending lots of time at their horse ranch.
