Scholarships
Dallas Geological Society Members and Friends,
Part of our stated purpose in our ByLaws is to “promote education in earth science”. We have accomplished this since 1970 through the Scholarship Committee which every year invites, selects, and awards funds to students enrolled in the study of geology who are from the Dallas area.

There are 5 funds named in honor of former members of the DGS: the Helsewick, Shepherd, Sistrunk, Stanley, and Dodge, Scholarships. Since 1999 these funds have been administered by the Communities Foundation of Dallas, although the selection of recipients has been through the Scholarship Committee of the DGS.

The Communities Foundation of Texas is a non-profit organization which manages the Scholarship funds of the DGS. It is one of the largest community foundations in the nation, helping donors take advantage of optimal tax benefits, and streamlines the application process.

We are pleased to offer financial support to Dallas area undergraduate and graduate students studying geology. The application process is required through the Communities Foundation of Texas, so follow this link:

and search for DGS to see the application. The deadline for applications is April 1, 2024 and funds will be made available for the 2024 school year.
