Field Trip: "From the Basement to the Pennsylvanian with Everything in Between: A Texas Hill Country Geology Field Trip

A 2 night, 3 day field trip in the Texas Hill Country looking at rocks spanning from the Grenville basement up to the Pennsylvanian foreland basin fill of the Fort Worth Basin and Bend Arch. Tickets are limited, first come first serve and for Members ONLY. Tickets go on sale this Friday, Feb. 10th at 12:00 P.M.

Tickets are limited to one per person. 12 professional spots are available along with 3 student spots. Prices are detailed below:

Professional Members: $600 if sharing a room, $1000 for private room

Student Members: $100 if sharing a room, $500 for private room

Tickets will be served on a first come first serve basis to members only and will go on sale Friday, Feb. 10th at 12:00 P.M. Registration will end on March 10th after which registration can not be guaranteed due to hotel availability and prices will increase by $200. 

Trip Details: We will meet in DFW (location TBD) on Friday, April 14th at 10:00 A.M. and carpool in vans towards Marble Falls, Texas, with a few outcrop stops along the way down. This two and a half day field course will take participants from the Grenville basement all the way up into the Pennsylvanian foreland basin fill of the Ft Worth Basin and Bend Arch. Along the way we will examine granites, Cambrian quartzose sandstone and green sands, karsted Marble Falls, Llanite, Barnett Shale The trip will also examine karsted Ellenberger in the Longhorn Caverns with Dr Bob Loucks. During the drive back we will make several stops to view more Marble Falls and Pennsylvanian shallow marine sediments. We will return to our original meeting point in DFW by approximately 5:00 P.M. on Sunday.

Breakfast, lunch, snacks, drinks, and cavern entrance fees will be included with registration along with the 2 night stay at the Hidden Falls Inn in Marble Falls. Dinner (Friday and Saturday) is not included in the trip cost. Due to the limited parking availability at the outcrops and the stops along the way, individual vehicle use is not permitted.
