Join us at the George R. Brown Convention Center for an exciting and entertaining celebration of women geologists and their historic contributions to 100 years of oil exploration.
AAPG’s Professional Women in Earth Sciences (PROWESS) will host an all-day forum at the George R. Brown Convention Center on Saturday, April 1, featuring expert speakers, panel discussions, networking potential and the world premiere of a new documentary: “Rock Stars: Pioneering Women in Petroleum Geology.”
“Rock Stars,” an engaging video that examines and celebrates the century-long history, achievements and advancements of women in the profession, will be shown and discussed in four segments, each of which examines the eras, the cultures, the profession and the experiences women faced in pursuing their love of petroleum geology.
It features both the great names and unknown faces who made significant and lasting contributions to the science, industry and profession of petroleum geology.
It wasn’t an easy journey for any of them. Today, it stands as a triumph – and a torch for all to follow.
Tickets for the special event are $65 ($40 for students), and include a continental breakfast and lunch. Schlumberger will host a post-forum reception open to all.
The forum is a great opportunity to network and honor the industry’s women geoscientists. Start your AAPG centennial celebration in style – don’t miss “Pioneering Women in Petroleum Geology.”
The mission of the PROWESS Committee is to increase participation and advancement of women in earth sciences and the energy industry, with an emphasis on education, outreach, support, leadership, development and ultimately retention.
PROWESS members currently are involved in several projects, including a new book, “The History of Women in Petroleum Geology,” as well as a “Returning to Work After Hiatus” guide, short courses and networking events at major conferences, an E-Mentoring program and more.
Contact Barbara Tillotson (email@example.com) for more information on how to get involved.
