Awards

Research and Publication Award

In 1977 the Society instituted the Research and Publication Award. So many of the membership were publishing the results of their research that it seemed appropriate that the Society recognize their contribution to our geological science. Dr. Rodger E. (Tim) Denison was the first recipient, followed by Dr. Richard Moiola in 1978 and Dr. Robert J. Cordell in 1980. There have been only thirteen people receive this award in its nineteen-year history.

Public Service Award

During 1981 it became apparent that the Society needed to recognize its members who had been active in public service promoting the science of geology. The Public Service Award was created, and its first recipient was John D. Wisenbaker. This award has been given to only twelve people in its fifteen-year history.

Professional Service Award

In 1980 the Society instituted the Professional Service Award. Many of the members were involved in projects that promoted professional service to the DGS, the petroleum industry, and the geological profession. William J. Hilseweck was the first member of the Society to receive this award. The following people have received the award during its seventeen-year history:

Outstanding Service Award

In 1970 the Dallas Geological Society began presenting the Outstanding Service Award to deserving members. Jerry L. Nelms was the first recipient of this prestigious award in 1970. It was four years later, in 1975, that Dr. Robert J. Cordell and Dr. Richard Jodry received the second and third awards. There have been 37 DGS members who have received this award over the last 26 years. Mr. Dwight E. Roberts is the only person to have received the award twice, first in 1989 and again in 1991.
